The strategic challenge

How ready were enterprises to turn AI adoption into scalable value?

Why it mattered

Rapid adoption could obscure whether the organization was prepared.

Usage numbers alone could suggest progress. Leaders also needed to understand whether strategy, infrastructure, data, talent, security, policy, and sustainability were in place to support durable value.

The research program

A global study of enterprise AI adoption and readiness.

The study surveyed business leaders at organizations with more than 1,000 employees. Respondents influenced purchasing decisions within their organizations.

My role

I led Method Communications’ research contribution and the survey research and narrative development for Chapter 1.

Connect multiple readiness measures into one executive story.

I synthesized findings across adoption, strategy, infrastructure, talent, data readiness, and security into a clear account of the global state of enterprise AI readiness.

  • Led survey research and the Chapter 1 narrative.
  • Connected adoption data to organizational readiness.
  • Identified the gap between active use and comprehensive strategy.
  • Translated complex findings into an executive-ready narrative.

Key findings

Many companies were using AI. Far fewer had a comprehensive plan.

82%

of surveyed businesses reported using AI.

39%

reported having a clearly defined, comprehensive AI strategy.

How the findings could be used

A credible framework for a more demanding AI conversation.

The findings gave Arm an evidence-based way to frame enterprise AI readiness. They allowed the conversation to move beyond adoption rates and examine the organizational conditions required for scalable value.

For business leaders, the index provides a structure for examining readiness gaps across strategy, infrastructure, data, talent, security, and policy without treating active use as proof of preparedness.
